Big Basin Redwoods State Park
Najstarszy stanowy park w Kalifornii, utworzony w 1902 roku. Tutaj, tylko pól godziny samochodem na południe od zgiełku San Jose i miast San Francisco Peninsula, możesz się zanurzyć w największym nieprzerwanym pierwotnym lasie olbrzymich sekwoi wybrzeża Kalifornii (sequoia, coastal redwood) . 18000 akrów starodrzewia i powracających do dawnej świetności  lasów pełnych dostojnych sekwoi, z mieszanka drzew iglastych, dębów, gąszczy i nietkniętych siedlisk łęgowych (riparian habitats). Klimat zmienia się od mglistego i wilgotnego powietrza blisko oceanu do słonecznych i ciepłych grani górskich na wysokości 2000ft npm. Ponad 80 mil górskich szlaków dla pieszych, na rowery górskie i na wycieczki na koniu, kempingi dla grup pod namiotem i w kabinach.
Dojazd:
Samochodem można dojechać z centrum San Francisco do Big Basin w około 1.5-2godzin w zależności od wybranej trasy (mapa Google). Znacznie bliżej jest z San Jose i miast na Peninsula.


Muir Woods
Tylko kilka mil na północ od San Francisco w odosobnionym kanionie rośnie pradawny las pełen sekwoi przybrzeżnych (coast redwood) - znany na całym świecie jako Muir Woods. Park oferuje spokojną, nastrojową głusze, wystawy, programy i liczne szlaki - można spacerować wśród dostojnych, tysiącletnich gigantycznych drzew osiągających 260ft/80m wysokości. 150 milionów lat temu przodkowie sekwoi rosły licznie na terenach dzisiejszych Stanow Zjednoczonych. Dzisiaj  sekwoja (sequoia sempervirens, co znaczy "always green" czyli "wiecznie zielona") można znaleźć tylko w wąskim, chłodnym,  przybrzeżnym pasie od Monterey do Oregonu. Zanim przemysł drzewny przybył do Kalifornii, około 2 miliony akrów (8 tys km2) starodrzewiu sekwoi rosło w wąskim pasie wzdłuż wybrzeża. W XX wieku większość tych lasów została wycięta i tylko na północ od San Francisco, jedna dolina/kanion,  Sequoia Canyon, głownie dzięki odosobnieniu i trudnemu dostępowi została nietknięta.

Monterey
Krajobraz i nastrój znany z wielu noweli Steinbecka.
Atrakcje: Zwiedź znane akwarium Monterey Bay Aquarium (www.mbayaq.org), przejedź się słynnym 17-Mile Drive ze wspaniałymi widokami, pospaceruj po Cannery Row. Jeżeli zostanie trochę czasu odwiedź sąsiednie Carmel. 

Palo Alto
Siedziba słynnego Stanford University, który dał początek Silicon Valley i wykształcił wielu geniuszy technologi komputerowej. 
Atrakcje: Zwiedź teren uniwersytetu, następnie wybierz się na spacer an University Avenue, sklepy restauracje, kawiarnie, księgarnie i atmosfera twórczego luzu.

Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is one of the largest and least fragmented habitat blocks in the Sierra Nevada, and the park supports a diversity of plants and animals. The park has an elevation range from 2,000 to 13,114 feet (600 to 4,000 m) and contains five major vegetation zones: chaparral/oak woodland, lower montane, upper montane, subalpine, and alpine. Of California's 7,000 plant species, about 50% occur in the Sierra Nevada and more than 20% within Yosemite. There is suitable habitat or documentation for more than 160 rare plants in the park, with rare local geologic formations and unique soils characterizing the restricted ranges many of these plants occupy.

Tri-Valley
Obejmuje miasta  Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon i Danville.
Atrakcje: Wybierz sie na góre Mount Diablo (Gora Diabla), spróbuj wina w jednej z 45 winnic w dolinie  Livermore (Livermore Valley). Inne atrakcje  mini-golf, go-karty i tzw Lazer Tag at Boomers (www.boomersparks.com).

  1. Hike up to Bass Lake in Point Reyes and take a swim.
  2. Head over to Fort Baker and have a burger and a beer at Mike's Place. Then walk around and soak in the million-dollar view!
  3. Explore the Presidio. Start at Andy Goldsworthy's spire near the golf course, and then continue on towards the ocean. Or, just drive in and look for a trail. It will lead somewhere you will remember.
  4. Drive north or south on Highway 1 with no particular destination. You will discover something.
  5. Two new nightspots to check out in the City: Sloan and Lot 46.
  6. Head down to the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood and join  the pool party there on Monday to finish off the weekend.
